Call for Members of the Global Alliance on Highly Hazardous Pesticides (GAHHPs)

The International Conference on Chemicals Management at its Fifth Session (ICCM5), under Resolution V/11 endorsed ‘the formation of a Global Alliance on Highly Hazardous Pesticides…...and further invited ‘all interested stakeholders to become members of the Global Alliance on Highly Hazardous Pesticides …… and commit themselves to its overall goal and, where appropriate, to contribute financial or in-kind resources or expertise towards the development and implementation of its activities’.

The Global Alliance on Highly Hazardous Pesticides (GAHHPs) is a voluntary and multi-stakeholder initiative that includes all relevant actors, working together, to achieve targets related to highly hazardous pesticides under the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC).

Following a process, led by a United Nations (UN) task force consisting of focal points from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and with the engagement of relevant stakeholders through an Interim Steering Committee (iSC), the call for membership of the Alliance is now open

Members will be updated on the progress of the Alliance, including on applications and the selection of an Advisory Council, the establishment of the Alliance, its official launch at the Global Framework on Chemicals - 1st International Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in November 2026, as well as on follow-up activities post conference.

Although the establishment of the Alliance is facilitated through the UN and GFC, the Alliance will, nevertheless, operate independently of both the UN and the GFC following its official launch and will function under its own governance structure and Advisory Council, selected from its members.
