Strengthening synergies between the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Minamata conventions
Project Summary
Montenegro is seeking to strengthen its implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm Conventions, and the Minamata Convention by addressing interagency communication and putting in place data sharing between sectors. Through this project, Montenegro will overcome the gaps in legislation, institutions, information exchange and multi-sectoral cooperation, his aim is strengthening synergies between the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm Conventions and the Minamata Convention at the national level, while improving cooperation between relevant government departments and agencies, including the health sector and civil society organizations through capacity building and development of policy and regulatory documents.
Project Objectives
Through this project, Montenegro seeks to overcome the gaps in legislation, institutions, information exchange and multi-sectoral cooperation, with the view to strengthening synergies between the BRS Conventions and the Minamata Convention at the national level, in line with strategic and policy objectives of Montenegrin government. This will be carried out through:
- developing and endorsing chemicals and waste related policy and regulatory documents.
- implementing capacity building and awareness raising activities to facilitate a synergistic approach to chemicals and waste management in Montenegro and
- establishing an efficient national reporting mechanism for the BRS and Minamata Conventions.
