Climate-Friendly Investment in Ghana

Accelerating public and private climate-friendly investments for resilient development

Considering the enormous task for the country in terms of resource mobilization, the Ghana NDC action project is supporting the investment mobilization efforts of the government of Ghana by addressing the bottlenecks to capital flows into the two priority areas. The project has conducted an adaptation finance study to identify the potential risk, challenges and opportunities for policy interventions towards driving investment into adaptation especially solar powered irrigation systems (SPIS) which resulted in additional project grant support from CTCN-AFCIA to implement recommendations aimed at developing innovative business and financing models which will make SPIS accessible to smallholders. On the other hand, the project also contributed to the CTCN-UNEP DTU technical assistance to the Ministry of Transport on conducting pre-feasibility and market readiness study on the implementation of e-mobility in Ghana which is seeking to put the right structures in place to attract investments into the sector. The project has gone further in its collaboration with the ministry of transport by signing a memorandum of understanding to develop a concept note and full proposal for funding of an e-bus system in the city of Accra. Finally, the project will develop investment plans and funding proposals for each of the sectors based on data collected over the period by the NPC and NTP by engaging smallholder farmers, investors and in consultation with national actors and financial institutions by identifying and developing pipeline projects which aligns with Ghana’s NDC ambitions
