Amman, January 29, 2023 - The Ministry of Environment, the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), with the support of the UN Environment programme and the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Center under the NDC-Action Project organized the first technical training entitled” obligations under UNFCCC and Paris agreement” in Amman from 29-31 January.

Workshop

This three-day capacity-building program was the first of a series of national technical capacity-building workshops that will be hosted as part of the project. It aims to develop a common understanding of the background of the NDCs in the Paris Agreement, the mitigation and adaptation components in Jordan's NDCs, the readiness requirements to support Jordan in launching and sustaining the implementation process and the NDC costings in water for agriculture, and solid waste management sectors tackled by the project.

About Twenty-five focal points of technical working groups under the national climate change committee from relevant ministries and governmental organizations participated in the workshop.

The goals of this training were to acquire a thorough understanding of the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement standards and requirements, increase the knowledge of IPCC guidelines and GHG inventory estimation in the Agriculture and Waste Management Sectors, and enhance the country's preparation for the implementation of NDCs.

The attendees were willing to learn the specifics of several technical areas, particularly MRV (Measurement/monitoring, reporting, and verification) and GHG inventory and emissions calculations.

The NDC Action Project is a transformative effort to improve action and ambition on climate change. It supports 10 countries as they try to fulfill the climate mitigation and adaptation commitments agreed as part of the Paris Agreement by collaborating with partners and donors and It is a joint initiative between the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and its collaborating center the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC)
