Context

The NDC Action Project supports efforts of ten partner countries including Mongolia to translate their NDCs into concrete sector strategies and actions ready for financing and implementation. Supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) of Germany and implemented through UNEP and UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), the project engages partner countries across three continents of Asia, Africa and Latin America. It builds on three core principles: country ownership, balanced focus between adaptation and mitigation, and integration with national development and climate change priorities. In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MoET) and relevant sector ministries and agencies, the project aims to promote energy efficiency improvements in industrial sector and build the resilience in agriculture sector to meet Mongolia’s NDC mitigation and adaptation targets.

Event objectives

The high-level event, attended by senior officials from the Government of Mongolia and the Embassy of Germany provided the opportunity to officially launch the project to the Mongolian stakeholders. The purpose of the event was two-fold:

  • Present the overall framework, targeted outcomes and its contribution to meeting Mongolia’s NDCs to government officials, stakeholders from non-public sectors and development partners in the climate and development space;

  • Seek collaboration from stakeholders to contribute to the project’s successful implementation.
