Policy Support in Ghana

Supporting policies and programmes for enhanced NDC implementation & LTS development

Ghana’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) builds on other national documents prepared and submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in fulfilment of its obligations under the Convention. These include the National Communications, Biennial Update Reports, Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and Technology Needs Assessment (TNAs). Ghana sees finance as an essential part of the whole NDC process.

In order to ensure effective implementation of the NDCs, the NDC Action project is facilitating the implementation of climate-resilient and low carbon development in line with national and global goals. The NDC Action project is supporting efforts by Ghana to translate its NDCs into strategies and actions ready for financing and implementation. It builds on three core principles: country ownership, balanced focus between adaptation and mitigation, and integration with national development and climate change priorities. Aligning with Ghana’s own NDC priorities, the project is providing technical support through its National Technical Partners (NTP) to strengthen the capacity of institutions responsible for the two NDC priority sectors i.e. Ministry of Transport / Energy commission and Ghana Irrigation development Authority; support development of a portfolio of sectoral policies and programmes for the two priority sectors selected for the country; support development of investment plans in these sectors; and facilitate experience-sharing, both among the partner countries and with others.
