Mr Haddad has over 25 years of expertise in sustainable development, environmental management, and climate change.
He oversees the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) programmes on environment protection, pollution control, and resource efficiency in the West Asia region. He has played a leading role in scaling up climate finance in the region and supporting countries in meeting their obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, and building resilience through adaptation planning and implementation.
Previously, he served at UNEP Headquarters in Kenya as Global Task Manager for Capacity Building for the Rio Conventions, coordinated a regional marine conservation programme for the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden based in Saudi Arabia, and worked as a Sustainable Development Advisor with the United Nations Development Programme in Yemen.
Before joining the UN, he was Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Sana'a, Yemen.
Mr Haddad holds a doctorate in biology from the University of York, UK.
