Asad Naqvi serves as the Director for Implementation Support Division at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat. Before joining the CBD, he was the DRI for the Finance and Economic Transformation Programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He led UNEP’s Economic and Trade Policy Team based in Geneva.
Hailing from Pakistan, Naqvi embarked on his journey with the United Nations in 2001 and joined UNEP in 2004, assuming responsibilities across organizations and teams and leading initiatives such as the prestigious UN Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) – a joint venture of UNEP, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
With extensive experience in supporting countries and regions in aligning public finance, macroeconomic planning, and industrial and employment policies with environmental sustainability, he has offered advisory services for policy processes in over 40 countries across the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
