Giulia Ferrini currently serves as Head of the UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), where she leads UNEP’s data-driven efforts to accelerate methane mitigation.
As one of IMEO’s founders in 2021, Ms. Ferrini has been instrumental in shaping its mission to provide open, reliable and actionable data to those with the agency to reduce emissions. She oversees a team of more than 70 scientists, data analysts, industry practitioners and other experts.
Prior to assuming this leadership role, she served as IMEO’s Transparency Lead, managing the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 – UNEP’s flagship reporting and mitigation framework that underpins the European Union’s Methane Regulation and engages over 150 oil and gas companies to drive transparency and accountability.
Over the past decade at UNEP, Ms. Ferrini has collaborated with governments, financial institutions, businesses and civil society to advance climate solutions. She contributed to the establishment of the UNFCCC Climate Technology Centre and Network and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.
Ms. Ferrini holds an MA in International Relations from Roma Tre University and an MSc in Politics and Governments from the London School of Economics.
