Associate Programme Management Officer


Biography

Kilian is an Associate Programme Management Officer in the Freshwater Ecosystems Unit. He focuses on UNEP’s work within UN-Water’s Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 (IMI-SDG6) which seeks to support countries in monitoring water- and sanitation-related issues within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and in compiling country data to report on global progress towards SDG 6. The three SDG 6 indicators under UNEP’s custodianship are: 6.3.2 (“Proportion of bodies of water with good ambient water quality”), 6.5.1 (“Degree of integrated water resources management implementation”) and 6.6.1 (“Change in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time”).

Kilian, a German national, previously worked on water management related issues in Santiago de Chile and obtained a doctoral degree from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, for his research on water supply and sanitation in the Indian city of Hyderabad. He joined the UN Environment Programme in 2016 where he initially worked in the Global Environment Monitoring Unit with a focus on ambient water quality.
