Biography

Tita Korvenoja is the Chief of the Environmental Conventions and Policy Branch within UNEP’s Law Division, where she leads efforts to strengthen environmental governance and support the effective implementation of multilateral environmental agreements. Her work focuses on advancing legal and institutional frameworks for sustainable development, fostering international cooperation, and integrating environmental considerations into policy and decision-making.

With over 20 years of experience in international environmental governance, she has played a key role in shaping global and regional policies. Before joining UNEP, she headed the International and EU Affairs Unit at the Ministry of the Environment in Finland, holding various expert positions within the Finnish government. Her career spans climate change negotiations, EU and regional cooperation, and engagements with UNEP and UNHABITAT. She has also been a strong advocate for integrating environmental priorities into Finland’s development policy, serving as an expert member of the Finnish Development Policy Committee.

Her expertise extends across multiple sectors, including public administration, international organizations, and policy advisory roles. She is committed to fostering inclusive and results-oriented collaboration, ensuring that environmental law and governance frameworks drive meaningful impact.

Having attended an international boarding school in Africa, she values diversity and enjoys engaging with people from different backgrounds. In her personal time, she enjoys swimming and nature.
