Ms. Vera Goldschmidt was appointed Head of the JEU on 3 April 2018. Prior to that she was the Deputy Head of Office of the OCHA Liaison Office to the EU and NATO in Brussels. She also worked as the Regional Senior Emergency and Post-Crisis Specialist at International Organization for Migration in Brussels, after being in HQ as the Global CCCM Cluster Civil Protection Officer.
Ms. Goldschmidt was a seconded national expert from Portugal to the European Commission for 6 years where she worked in DG ECHO being, among other tasks, the focal point of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to the UN.
In her home country, Vera worked at the National Medical Emergency Institute and the National Authority for Civil Protection. Ms. Goldschmidt holds a law degree from the University of Lisbon.
