South Africa Closed Agriculture

Awareness creation and capacity-building on eco-labelling for the agricultural sector

One of Africa’s key strategies, as identified in the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns and its corresponding roadmap, is to promote a shift towards sustainable consumption and production – SCP – through eco-labelling. While eco-labelling is a very important tool for promoting SCP, eco-labelling capacity is low in South Africa generally, including among stakeholders of Proudly South African, South Africa’s local procurement advocacy campaign. There is therefore a need to build eco-labelling capacity in South Africa in readiness for the shift in consumer needs and the demand for eco-labelled products. In this project, “Proudly South African”, the project grantee, will promote eco-labelled products in South Africa, Africa and internationally.
