About the Kunming Biodiversity Fund (KBF)
Dedicated to safeguarding global biodiversity and implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), the Kunming Biodiversity Fund (KBF), initiated and financially supported by the Government of China, operates in strategic partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and serves as a strategic financing and cooperation mechanism bridging global ambition and practical conservation delivery. KBF mobilizes and directs resources for high-impact, inclusive, and equitable biodiversity action in an effort to support countries in implementing the KMGBF.
The KBF was officially launched in May 2024 in Beijing, China, to support developing countries to accelerate and upscale their actions for the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with a particular emphasis on the implementation of KMGBF.
The KBF support will be in close alignment with and complementary to the Convention on Biological Diversity’s existing financial instruments, including the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund. The KBF will adhere to multilateralism and work closely with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) and other UN organizations. The KBF is open to all parties for contributions including financial organizations, public and private donors.
