In March 2023, the Republic of Panama will become the first Central American country to host the Our Ocean Conference. Under the theme Our Ocean…Our Connection, the Government of Panama will highlight the importance of knowledge as the basis of our actions and policies to ensure protection of our oceans, responsible management of marine resources, and sustainable future economic growth.

The Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute and the Cartagena Convention Secretariat are co-hosts of the Caribbean Node of the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML-Caribe). The 75th Annual Meeting of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI 75) will be held in Fort Walton Beach, FL from 7th – 11th November 2022 at The Island Hotel. GCFI is partnering with the Okaloosa County, the Destin – Fort Walton Beach Convention Center and Visitor Bureau to host GCFI75.

The GEF CReW+ Project, represented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will launch (in-person) its Compendium of Sanitation Technologies on Tuesday 11th October 2022. The soft launch of the compendium was held virtually in June 2022. The launch will be part of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance's (SuSanA) afternoon session on “Tecnologías y Herramientas de Saneamiento” (sanitation technologies and tools) at 4:30 p.m. GMT-5.

The 7th International Marine Debris Conference (7IMDC) will build on the momentum of past IMDCs by bringing together governments, industry, academia, civil society, and all relevant stakeholders, to discuss the latest science, strengthen collaborations, find solutions and catalyze action to address the urgent, global problem of marine litter and plastic pollution. The meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations, organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and hosted by the Maritime Authority of Suriname (MAS) will be held on 28th and 29th July 2022 in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, comes at a critical time as the world is seeking to address the many of the deep-rooted problems of our societies laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic and which will require major structural transformations and common shared solutions that are anchored in the SDGs. To mobilize action, the Conference will seek to propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.

This virtual seminar will present monitoring and regulation measures for the conservation of herbivorous fish, essential to maintaining the health and ecological functions of coral reefs. According to The Ocean Conservancy, 8m tonnes of plastic is entering the ocean every year. The impact on the ocean is well publicised, and encouraging steps are being taken to eliminate plastic waste and pollution. The future of plastics in the ocean will be determined by the way plastics are managed on land – the problem must be addressed throughout the supply chain, and end to end solutions found.

The 71st annual conference of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI) will be held in San Andres, Colombia from 5–9 November 2018. The meeting is being hosted by the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

The GEF Biennial International Waters Conference (IWC) is the signature event of the GEF IW Portfolio. The IWC objectives are to facilitate cross-sectoral and GEF IW Portfolio-wide learning and experience sharing. They strive to solicit advice from the existing GEF IW Portfolio on burning issues and to assist in building participant capacity in key management and technical areas. Participants sum up progress achieved and look to the future of programming within and beyond the GEF IW Focal Area.
