The Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea (PROMAR) Inception Workshop will convene 14th February - 17th February 2023. PROMAR is financed by the Government of Germany through the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and is managed through a partnership between German NGO adelphi as Lead Implementer and the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat at Implementing Partner.

An increasing amount of evasive plastic fragments smaller than 5 mm in length (Microplastics) are found in the water of the Caribbean Sea annually. The management of these Microplastics are proving to be an increasing challenge for the Greater Caribbean region. The impacts of these Microplastics on the environment and human health are the subject of ongoing research and studies in the region.
Appointment of new Coordinator

CEP was established in 1981 as part of the Regional Seas Programme in recognition of the importance and value of the Wider Caribbean Region’s fragile and vulnerable coastal and marine ecosystems including endemic plants and animals.
