About the conference organizers

The Consumer Information Programme of the One Planet network (OPN) is a multistakeholder community working to engage in dialogue and collaborate on innovative solutions to achieve SDG 12 and promote a more circular economy. It holds projects, resources, and expertise on ecolabels, climate change, biodiversity loss mitigation, and other themes to inspire a global movement for sustainable consumption and production.

The EcoAdvance project is a collaborative effort between GIZ, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Oeko-Institute, receiving financial support financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The project aims to increase the use of sustainable public procurement and ecolabels as tools to improve climate mitigation, biodiversity, and resource conservation.

The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (SEGES/MGI) and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (SEV/MDIC) are supporting the organization.

Annual Meeting of the Environmental Alliance of America (AAA)

Dates: 8–9 July 2025
Location: Brasília, Brazil

About the Alliance:

The Environmental Alliance of America (AAA) hosts the first regional ecolabelling programme in Latin America and the Caribbean. It brings together founding standardization and accreditation institutions from Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, and Paraguay, representing a collective market of over 450 million consumers.

Supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and financed by the German government, the initiative aims to boost sustainable trade and enable better-informed consumption decisions across the region. Its legal establishment follows a 2023 Ministerial Decision from the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, which underscored the region’s commitment to ecolabelling through the Alliance.

The AAA provides a credible, harmonized alternative to self-declared environmental claims, ensuring products meet rigorous life-cycle sustainability criteria. By connecting producers and consumers with trustworthy product information, the Alliance empowers individuals, businesses, and public procurement agencies to make informed choices—fostering more sustainable practices in high-impact sectors such as food, air conditioning, and plastics. It serves as a key regional mechanism for addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution through market transformation.

Agenda Highlights:

  • Strategic roadmap 2025–2030 and internal governance reforms
  • Funding strategies and proposals to ensure long-term financial sustainability
  • Technical sessions on environmental criteria, ecolabelling, and certification systems
  • Alignment with international initiatives (GEN, IAAC, COPANT, SIM)
  • Enhancing brand visibility, stakeholder engagement, and market relevance
  • Operational updates from key committees and Board of Directors

Why it Matters:
The AAA provides a credible, harmonized alternative to self-declared environmental claims, ensuring products meet rigorous life-cycle sustainability criteria.
