Overview:

UNEP is officially launching the second edition of its International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) report, An Eye on Methane, at ADIPEC, the world's most influential gathering for energy industry professionals, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The publication delves into the progress made to achieve a deep reduction of methane emissions, starting with the fossil fuel sector. It is published ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November.

Emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas and the second biggest driver of global warming, have soared faster than at any time since the 1980s. An Eye on Methane provides decision makers and industry leaders with a framework of action to track and monitor methane emissions, and plan targeted and ambitious action for their mitigation.

The event will feature a keynote by Sheila Aggarwal-Khan, Director, United Nations Environment Programme. It will then be followed by a technical presentation on the key findings of the report by Manfredi Caltagirone, Head of UNEP's IMEO, and a high-level strategic panel discussion. In this panel discussion, industry leaders will share their insights and strategies for tracking, monitoring, and reducing methane emissions in a collaborative manner.
