About
As Brazil prepares to host COP30 and China deepens its global environmental engagement, forests and nature are gaining renewed relevance. From food security and urban resilience to trade and finance, evidence is growing that forest integrity underpins multiple systems. However, the science, policies, and partnerships needed to build forest-positive economies remain fragmented and underdeveloped.
This symposium will bring together 40–60 leading researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from both countries to address that gap. It aims to co-develop a research and policy agenda that can inform international cooperation and action ahead of COP30.
Core topics:
Forests and Economy – Land use, agriculture, trade and commodity transition. Can commodity-driven growth be reconciled with forest integrity—and how must land use models adapt to shifting global trade dynamics?
Forests and Cities – Urban design, bioeconomy, and eco-civilization. How can cities near or far from forests drive regeneration, and what can Brazil and China learn from eco-civilization and bioeconomy models to apply in practice?
Forests and Finance – Investment strategies for forest resilience. How can we move from fragmented pilot projects to a coherent financial architecture that unlocks large-scale capital for forests?
