The ‘From Pollution to Solution’ assessment examines the magnitude and severity of marine litter and plastic pollution and reviews existing solutions and actions. It provides a comprehensive update on current research (and knowledge gaps) concerning direct impacts on marine life, the risks posed to ecosystems and human health, and social and economic costs.

The ‘From Pollution to Solution’ launch event aims to:

  • Discuss various aspects of the scientific findings in the assessment, as well as knowledge gaps and emerging issues
  • Discuss policy implications of the assessment for governments, industry and intergovernmental organizations, including in the lead up to UNEA 5.2
  • Highlight the new Vital Graphics report, 'Drowning in Plastics – Vital Graphics on Marine Litter and Plastic Waste', developed in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and GRID-Arendal.
  • Provide an overview of the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML) Action Tracks and activities to advance them
  • Introduce the GPML Digital Platform and how it enhances multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration
  • Engage our audience in the panel discussions
