The UN Environment Programme launches a new publication that compiles data and information about the environmental aspects of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their status in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Measuring progress - The environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals in Latin America and the Caribbean is based on the regional performance assessed through the 88 SDG indicators that have a direct relation with environmental issues, and data from international organizations.

The publication shows that the environmental dimension is present in all the efforts to foster the 2030 Agenda in relation to poverty, hunger, health, education, gender, water and sanitation, energy, economic growth, human settlements, sustainable consumption and production, climate change, oceans and terrestrial ecosystems.

The study shows that environmental data is still limited in the region, as there is insufficient information for almost three quarters of the SDG indicators related to the environment. However, working on areas where data is available, the authors of the publication highlight that almost 20% of the indicators show a positive trend of improvement in the region, while 8% report negative trends.

The report, intended to assist policymakers and stakeholders from civil society, governments, communities and the private sector, also aims to showcase the opportunities of sound environmental management to ensure sustainable development alternatives that contribute to halt natural resource exhaustion, environmental degradation, and unsustainable livelihoods.

The publication will we presented during an online event with experts and relevant figures.
