UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is collaborating with government stakeholders and partner organizations to strengthen methane reduction efforts in Uzbekistan. Together with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and Carbon Limits, IMEO is organizing a training session on UNEP’s flagship oil and gas reporting and mitigation programme, the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), for government and industry stakeholders in Uzbekistan.
The session will introduce participants to the OGMP 2.0 reporting framework, the only comprehensive, measurement-based reporting framework for the sector, and its role in supporting methane emissions measurement, reporting and mitigation. Roughly 160 companies representing nearly 45 per cent of global oil and gas production have already joined the partnership.
Building on the earlier technical satellite capacity training held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in June 2026, this training will further strengthen participants’ understanding of key methane sources, available detection and measurement technologies and cost-effective mitigation opportunities. The training will also provide a platform to exchange knowledge, build capacity, and support near-term methane reduction.
