Current Projects

To facilitate access to GEF funding by Jamaica for Enabling Activities to meet its obligations under the UNCCD : a) Development and alignment of NAP with 10 – Year Strategy and b) Reporting and Review process.

Implement climate change adaptation interventions that protect human populations, maintain productive assets and enhance ecosystem resilience in the regions of Hanlé and Tadjourah.

To assist countries to review and update the National Implementation Plan (NIP) in order to comply with reporting obligations (Article 15) and updating of National Implementation Plans (Article 7) under the Stockholm Convention

To strengthen institutional capacity in the implementation of international conventions as a follow-up to the National Capacity Self Assessment (NCSA)

To support the development of national fuel economy policies in 20 countries, 6 countries through GEF-5 STAR Allocations and 14 without GEF funding, using existing tools developed with GEF-4 support (examples are the fuel economy baseline calculation methodology and online GFEI toolkit). In addition, to support coordination of the 20 country projects at the regional level to ensure that results are disseminated to other countries within the region. This will result in reduced vehicle fleet CO2 emissions in these 20 countries inline with the Global Fuel Economy Initiative's target of a 50% improvement of the overall global fleet fuel economy by 2050.

Develop and implement a participatory strategy to sustainably conserve biodiversity engaging communities, government and NGO participation.

Increased quantity and improved quality of information available for the review of implementation of the Convention

To support Saint Lucia in meeting its obligation to the UNCCD Convention through Alignment of NAP with the 10 – Year Strategy and reporting and review process for the UNCCD

To facilitate access to GEF funding by Dominica for Enabling Activities to meet its obligations under the UNCCD: a) NAP development in line with 10 – Year Strategy and b) Reporting and review process

Improve the effectiveness of efforts to combat wildlife crime in South Africa’s Protected Area system, focused on rhinoceros through improved forensic technologies and capacity, strengthened data gathering, sharing and analysis systems at national level, and enhanced cooperation structures and mechanisms at international level to support law enforcement efforts along the whole trafficking chain

Project Objective: To assist Mozambique to strengthen the existing institutional and technical structures needed to meet the obligations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

To prepare and submit the Republic of Moldova's fourth national communication (4NC) and the first biennial update report (BUR) to UNFCCC and in doing so enhance the country's capacity to meet its reporting obligations under the UNFCCC on continous basis.

With the overarching goal of integrating CBD Obligations into National Planning Processes through Enabling Activities, the main objective of this project is to enable Mongolia to revise its National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and to develop the Fifth National Report to the CBD

To prepare and submit Côte d'Ivoire's first biennial update report (BUR) to UNFCCC and in doing so enhance Côte d'Ivoire's capacity to meet its reporting obligations under the UNFCCC on a continuous basis.

To aasist countries to review and update the National Implementation Plan (NIP) in order to comply with reporting obligations (Article 15) and updating of National Implementation Plans (Artcile 7) under the Stockholm Convention

As an overall contribution to the achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Target 17 at the global level, to provide technical support to all eligible countries accessing GEF Biodiversity Enabling Activities funding, with a view to improving the quality benchmark and policy relevance of the next generation of NBSAPs, while also enhancing public participation in the NBSAP preparation process

To achieve an effective application of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, by implementing Panama's national biosafety regulatory framework and developing national capacities to properly handle Living Genetically Modified Organisms (LMO) for the safeguard of biodiversity.
