To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing to prepare and submit their First National Reports on measures that each Party has taken to implement the Nagoya Protocol.

To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and submit their Fifth National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.

In response to outcomes of COP 15 of UNCCD, decisions 9 and 11 of COP15, this project aims to support eligible countries to utilize GEF resources for implementing the Convention and the UNCCD Strategy (2018-2030), which is a comprehensive global commitment to avoid and reduce desertification and land degradation and to restore the productivity of degraded land to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN). The project will support Parties to enhance their national-level institutions and technical capacities for effective and timely preparation and submission of the 2026 UNCCD national reports. To achieve this, the project will offer technical support to the UNCCD National Focal Points, equipping them with the technical tools to collect data and submit national reports through the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) reporting tool.

The objective of the Enabling Activity (EA) grant is to support countries in 1. Assessing the extent to which their current legal, policy and institutional framework allows for promptly becoming parties to the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) and enables their implementation of the Agreement. 2. Carrying out preparatory work in the context of their ratification, approval, acceptance or accession process towards becoming parties to the BBNJ Agreement. 3. Supporting their readiness to implement the BBNJ Agreement.

The project aims to support eight (8) countries to prepare and submit Initial Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR1s) and combined Third National Communication/BTR1s (NC3/BTR1s) that will comply with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement reporting requirements, while responding to its national development goals.

To fast-track readiness and early actions to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework by providing financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to review and align their national targets, NBSAPs, policy frameworks, monitoring frameworks and finance with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

To enhance national-level institutional and technical capacities for the 2021-2022 UNCCD reporting process in the context of the UNCCD Strategic Framework 2018-2030 and SDG15.3

To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and submit their Fourth National Reports on measures that each Party has taken to implement the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

Increase the capacity of vulnerable communities in the Greater Maputo Area to implement ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation (EbA)

To enable country Parties to collect necessary biophysical, socioeconomic data, establish sound reporting and monitoring systems at national level and report against the UNCCD Strategy

To provide financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to develop high quality, data driven sixth national reports (6NR) that will improve national decision-making processes for the implementation of NBSAPs; that report on progress towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (ABTs) and inform both the fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO5) and the Global Biodiversity Strategy of 2021 – 2030.

To Assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing to prepare and make timely submission of their Interim National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Protocol in line with Article 29

Strengthening policies, laws, and criminal justice capacities to address poaching and illegal wildlife trade (IWT) in five target countries in Africa

To Build and Strengthen Institutional Capacities for LMO Detection in Support of National Decision Making Processes in Biosafety Regulatory Systems in the Southern Africa Region

To reduce environmental and human health risks from PCB releases through the demonstration of a regional approach to the introduction of cost-effective and socially acceptable environmentally sound management (ESM) of PCB oils, equipment and wastes held by electrical utilities and other PCB owners in participating countries.

To Reduce Impacts From Land-Based Sources and Activities and Sustainably Manage Critical Coastal-Riverine Ecosytems Through the Implementation of the WIO-SAP Priorities with the Support of Partnerships at National and Regional Levels

To strengthen national capabilities for implementation and scaling up of evidence-based, innovative, diversified and environmentally sound disease vector control interventions (with special emphasis on malaria) with multi-stakeholder participation within context of IVM

To Assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and make timely submission of their Third National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Protocol in line with Article 33

To support thirty nine (39) Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) prepare and submit good quality initial biennial update reports to the UNFCCC that comply with the convention's reporting obligation

Nine countries prepare and submit intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) to the 2015 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Agreement and have institutional arrangements in place that support the INDC process

To Enhance the Effectiveness of Conservation of Dugongs and their Seagrass Ecosystems Across the Indian and Pacific Ocean Basins

Project Objective: To assist Mozambique to strengthen the existing institutional and technical structures needed to meet the obligations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

To facilitate access to GEF funding by 20 countries for Enabling Activities to meet their obligations under the UNCCD a) alignment of NAPs with 10 – Year Strategy and b) Reporting and Review process

The project will provide financial and technical support to 22 LDCs and SIDS to prepare and submit good quality National Communication (NC) reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which comply with the Convention repo
