To strengthen institutional and human capacities to enable Palau to comply with the requirements of the transparency framework under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing to prepare and submit their First National Reports on measures that each Party has taken to implement the Nagoya Protocol.

In response to outcomes of COP 15 of UNCCD, decisions 9 and 11 of COP15, this project aims to support eligible countries to utilize GEF resources for implementing the Convention and the UNCCD Strategy (2018-2030), which is a comprehensive global commitment to avoid and reduce desertification and land degradation and to restore the productivity of degraded land to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN). The project will support Parties to enhance their national-level institutions and technical capacities for effective and timely preparation and submission of the 2026 UNCCD national reports. To achieve this, the project will offer technical support to the UNCCD National Focal Points, equipping them with the technical tools to collect data and submit national reports through the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) reporting tool.

The project aims to support Palau to prepare and submit its First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) and a combined Second Biennial Transparency Report and Fourth National Communication (BTR2/NC4), which will comply with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Paris Agreement reporting requirements while responding to national development goals.

To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and submit their Fifth National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.

To strengthen aquaculture policy, planning, management, and production to protect and enhance marine biodiversity in Palau through an ecosystem approach

To fast-track readiness and early actions to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework by providing financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to review and align their national targets, NBSAPs, policy frameworks, monitoring frameworks and finance with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

To enhance national-level institutional and technical capacities for the 2021-2022 UNCCD reporting process in the context of the UNCCD Strategic Framework 2018-2030 and SDG15.3

To prevent the build-up of POPs and mercury materials and to manage and dispose of existing harmful chemicals and wastes across Pacific SIDS

To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and submit their Fourth National Reports on measures that each Party has taken to implement the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

To provide financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to develop high quality, data driven sixth national reports (6NR) that will improve national decision-making processes for the implementation of NBSAPs; that report on progress towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (ABTs) and inform both the fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO5) and the Global Biodiversity Strategy of 2021 – 2030.

To enable country Parties to collect necessary biophysical, socioeconomic data, establish sound reporting and monitoring systems at national level and report against the UNCCD Strategy

This project will establish a Pacific Island Country (PIC) network of national and regional databases for monitoring, evaluating, and analyzing environmental information to support environmental planning, forecasting, and reporting requirements at all levels.

To effectively and sustainably use biodiversity and maintain ecosystem goods and services in Palau by building institutional capacity to integrate the Palau Protected Area Network (PAN) with the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) initiative, and fostering a ridge-to-reef approach across and within these initiatives

To support ratification of the Nagoya Protocol and implementation of key measures to make the Protocol operational in Pacific Island countries.

Ratification and early implementation of the Minamata Convention is facilitated by the use of scientific and technical knowledge and tools by national stakeholders in participating countries

To Assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and make timely submission of their Third National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Protocol in line with Article 33

To strengthen the capacity for implementation of the updated POPs Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) and to create the conditions for sustainable monitoring of POPs in the Pacific Islands Region.

To support 16 countries parties Countries in meeting its obligation to the UNCCD Convention through Alignment of NAP with the 10 – Year Strategy and reporting and review process for the UNCCD

The project will provide financial and technical support to 22 LDCs and SIDS to prepare and submit good quality National Communication (NC) reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which comply with the Convention repo

Project Objective: With the overarching goal of integrating CBD Obligations into National Planning Processes through Enabling Activities, the main objective of this project is to enable GEF eligible LDCs and SIDs to revise the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and to develop the Fifth National Report to the CBD

The overall objective (goal) of the project is to pilot nationally-driven integrated processes and approaches to reporting to the three Rio Conventions (CBD, UNCCD and UNFCCC). More specifically, the project will (a) develop integrated approaches to data collection/analysis and information management of relevance to the three Rio Conventions; (b) increase synergies in the process of reporting to the three Conventions without compromising COP decisions in this regard; and (c) contribute to improved overall planning and decision-making processes at the country-level related to the implementation of these Conventions.

To strengthen the capacity to preserve and safeguard the health of ocean ecosystems in Pacific Island countries by catalysing the development and growth of sustainable blue economies (SBE).

To strengthen regional capacity for the sustainable monitoring of chemicals (POPs and Mercury), to support the effectiveness evaluation of the Stockholm Convention and the implementation of the mechanism of the Minamata Convention in the Pacific Region.

Facilitate the uptake of electric mobility in Palau to reduce transport emissions and move towards sustainable development of the land transport sector.
