To assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and submit their Fifth National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
In response to outcomes of COP 15 of UNCCD, decisions 9 and 11 of COP15, this project aims to support eligible countries to utilize GEF resources for implementing the Convention and the UNCCD Strategy (2018-2030), which is a comprehensive global commitment to avoid and reduce desertification and land degradation and to restore the productivity of degraded land to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN). The project will support Parties to enhance their national-level institutions and technical capacities for effective and timely preparation and submission of the 2026 UNCCD national reports. To achieve this, the project will offer technical support to the UNCCD National Focal Points, equipping them with the technical tools to collect data and submit national reports through the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) reporting tool.
To catalyze, through regional and global level action, the improvement of conservation and effective governance of critical landscapes in the Congo Basin Forest Biome
To enhance transboundary cooperation and SAP implementation through sustainable fisheries co-management, biodiversity conservation and restoration of degraded landscapes in selected key biodiversity of Lake Tanganyika.
The project seeks to strengthen institutional, infrastructural, human & regulatory biosafety capacities of the Governments of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar and Namibia in the implementation of NBFs in support of the CPB and (its) Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability & Redress.

To scale up and improve forest landscapes through community-based natural resources management in targeted trans-boundary landscapes.

Community-based management of forests and the promotion of sustainable development alternatives support and enhance biodiversity conservation, and strengthen livelihoods in the Monkoto Corridor and Salonga National Park
Strengthen national capacities, including on legislation and regulatory framework, for the effective implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and human wellbeing in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
To enable national legislators to advance policies and laws for integration of natural capital approach with a focus on the Great Green Wall Initiative where appropriate and REDD+ into development policies.
To enable country Parties to collect necessary biophysical, socioeconomic data, establish sound reporting and monitoring systems at national level and report against the UNCCD Strategy
To provide financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to develop high quality, data driven sixth national reports (6NR) that will improve national decision-making processes for the implementation of NBSAPs; that report on progress towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (ABTs) and inform both the fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO5) and the Global Biodiversity Strategy of 2021 – 2030.

To support eighteen (18) developing countries prepare and submit National Communications (NCs) and Biennial Update Reports (BURs) that comply with the UNFCCC reporting requirements while responding to national development goals
To Build and Strengthen Institutional Capacities for LMO Detection in Support of National Decision Making Processes in Biosafety Regulatory Systems in the Southern Africa Region
To Assist GEF-Eligible Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to prepare and make timely submission of their Third National Reports on measures that each party has taken to implement the Protocol in line with Article 33
To support thirty nine (39) Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) prepare and submit good quality initial biennial update reports to the UNFCCC that comply with the convention's reporting obligation
To strengthen the capacity for implementation of the updated POPs Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) and to create the conditions for sustainable monitoring of POPs in the African Region
Nine countries prepare and submit intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) to the 2015 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Agreement and have institutional arrangements in place that support the INDC process
Ratification of the Nagoya Protocol and the implementation of its basic provisions by the member countries of the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC)
