In response to outcomes of COP 15 of UNCCD, decisions 9 and 11 of COP15, this project aims to support eligible countries to utilize GEF resources for implementing the Convention and the UNCCD Strategy (2018-2030), which is a comprehensive global commitment to avoid and reduce desertification and land degradation and to restore the productivity of degraded land to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN). The project will support Parties to enhance their national-level institutions and technical capacities for effective and timely preparation and submission of the 2026 UNCCD national reports. To achieve this, the project will offer technical support to the UNCCD National Focal Points, equipping them with the technical tools to collect data and submit national reports through the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) reporting tool.

The objective of the project is to provide participating countries targeted financial and technical support to prepare new or updated TNAs, including Technology Action Plans (TAPs), for prioritized technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support adaptation and/or enhanced resilience to climate change impacts, and are consistent with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and national sustainable development objectives

To reverse the over-exploitation of select commercial living marine resources by enhancing the capacity of Mediterranean countries to manage fisheries, including through the application of ecosystem-based management tools, in their blue economy development

Facilitate the implementation of the Stockholm Convention in participating countries through the development, review and update of the NIPs and submission to the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention

The overall objective of the project is to implement in Tunisia, by 2008, a workable, responsive and transparent NBF, in line with the national development priorities, the Cartagena Protocol and other international obligations. The project will provide the necessary financial and technical assistance to: - Transform Tunisian National Biosafety Framework to a legally binding national biosafety regulatory regime through the enactment of Laws, and drafting of implementing regulations, decrees, orders; - Prepare specific training guides and manuals; - Train decision makers, scientists, administrative and technical staff on legal, scientific and technical matters;· - Enhance existing institutional facilities and infrastructures to undertake GMO detection and monitoring activities;· - Set up a mechanism for monitoring of enforcement; -·Strengthen channels for communication and information dissemination nationally, as well as through the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH);· - Promote public awareness and participation

The objective of the Enabling Activity (EA) grant is to support countries in: (a) assessing the extent to which their current legal, policy and institutional framework allows for promptly becoming parties to the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) and enables their implementation of the Agreement; (b) carrying out preparatory work in the context of their ratification, approval, acceptance or accession process towards becoming parties to the BBNJ Agreement; and (c) supporting their readiness to implement the BBNJ Agreement.

To strengthen regional capacity for the sustainable monitoring of chemicals (POPs and Mercury), to support the effectiveness evaluation of the Stockholm Convention and the implementation of the mechanism of the Minamata Convention.
