Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles

In Transport

The Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV) is the leading global public-private initiative promoting cleaner fuels and vehicles in developing countries and countries in transition.

Established at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, the PCFV brings together 73 organizations representing developed and developing countries, the fuel and vehicle industries, civil society, and leading world experts on cleaner fuels and vehicles.

Our partners provide technical, financial, and networking support to achieve cleaner air and lower greenhouse gas emissions from road transport. These partners are the driving force behind the PCFV’s many accomplishments.

A systems approach, that matches cleaner fuels to stricter vehicles standards for optimal benefits, has been the core of PCFV support to countries.  The PCFV runs 2 main campaigns:

  • The Fuels Campaign the target being the elimination of automotive leaded petrol (this was achieved globally in 2021) and the phase down of sulphur in petrol and diesel fuels to 50 parts per million (ppm) and below.

  • The Vehicles Campaign the target being Euro 4/IV and above vehicle emission standards.
