The Cartagena Convention Secretariat will participate in and support a regional capacity-building workshop on seagrass ecosystem restoration in the Dominican Republic, organized in the framework of the project Blue Growth through Green Restoration: Cartagena Regional Seas Convention Capacity Building on Seagrass Ecosystem Restoration. The activity is implemented by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (United Kingdom) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat.

The PROMAR Phase II Annual Meeting and Technical Visit will be held in Paramaribo, Suriname, in mid-November 2025. The objectives are to review project progress and indicators, align the 2026 work plan, exchange good practices and experiences among PROMAR countries, and conduct a site visit to observe marine litter and plastic pollution issues in Paramaribo.

The Third Meeting of the MPA Networks of the Wider Caribbean Region will take place on 28 October 2025 in Cartagena, Colombia, alongside the 78th Annual Meeting of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI). This gathering will unite networks of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) from the Wider Caribbean, along with their partners, to foster dialogue, share experiences, and strengthen regional cooperation in marine and coastal conservation.

Mr. Christopher Corbin, Coordinator of the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat participated in a Counter Pollution Workshop organized by the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency of the United Kingdom from 27-29th November in Miami, Florida.  The workshop, while targeting primarily UK Overseas Territories also afforded an opportunity for sharing of experiences and best practices of neighboring countries in the Wider Caribbean Region.

The SPAW Regional Activity Center (SPAW-RAC) has successfully implemented the Second Meeting of Managers of SPAW-listed Protected Areas, advancing the creation of the SPAW-listed MPAs Network. As requested by the Contracting Parties of the SPAW Protocol under the Cartagena Convention and in line with decisions made during SPAW-COP12, SPAW-RAC has been coordinating a regional effort to establish this network. The goal is to better understand and address the needs of protected area managers, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of SPAW-listed MPAs.

PROMAR is financed by the Government of Germany through the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and is managed through a partnership between German NGO adelphi as Lead Implementer and the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat at Implementing Partner.
