What: The Global Youth Environment Assembly (YEA) is a gathering of representatives of Children and Youth organizations from all around the world, interested in environment and sustainable development. It will take place virtually prior to the virtual session of UNEA-5.

YEA is self-organized by the Children and Youth Major Group (MGCY) and as such not part of the official UNEA-5 program but an associated meeting. Participation is open to representatives of the MGCY accredited and non-accredited to UNEP. UN Agencies, Members States, MEAs, representatives of other Major Groups and others are invited to participate as observers.

During YEA, participants will discuss various themes including capacity-building on engaging with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) UNEA-5, Stockholm +50, COVID-19 and green recovery, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and other emerging issues. It aims at building capacity of youth in engaging in the environmental agenda and providing a platform for knowledge sharing and networking among young environmentalists.

Sveinung Rotevatn, UNEA-5 President

Nalini Sharma, Chief, Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management
