Kick-off webinar: Thursday 23 April 2020

The Partnership Advisory Group decided at its tenth meeting (Geneva, November 2019) to initiate work on the issue of mercury from oil and gas production, identified as a cross-cutting topic amongst different Partnership areas.

Responding to this decision, the Partnership Secretariat organized expert consultations with interested partners and stakeholders, with the overall objective to identify potential useful contributions from the Partnership, within the context of its mission.

A webinar was held on Thursday 23 April 2020, from 1.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. CEST, to kick start these consultations and develop initial recommendations on contributions from the Partnership, with the aim to take stock and address the following questions:

  • What are the specific needs and challenges associated with the issue of managing mercury from the production and distribution of oil and gas as well as the subsequent decommissioning of oil and gas infrastructure?
  • How are Partnership areas, partners and other stakeholders contributing to addressing them?
  • Which guidance on best practices currently exist and which aspects of the issue/process do they cover?
  • Looking at next steps, how may the Partnership support the promotion of best practices and contribute to moving the issue forward?
