Our work

UNEP

Initiated in 2005 by a decision of the UNEP Governing Council, the Partnership plays an important role in catalyzing global action on mercury and offering information, capacity-building, and awareness-raising in support of implementation of the Minamata Convention.

With close to 250 partners from governments, IGOs, NGOs, industry and academia, the Partnership focuses on supporting timely and effective implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, providing state of the art knowledge and science and raising awareness towards global action on mercury.

The Partnership comprises eight areas of work, which represent sectors that use mercury or process raw materials that contain mercury, as well as key themes in mercury management and science:

Each Partnership Area is lead by one or more co-lead, and supports the overall goal of the Partnership through various the conduct of its activities. It also meets on a regular basis, at least annually.

Work is also conducted in a cross-cutting manner across Partnership areas, currently on mercury from oil and gas and from non-ferrous metals mining and smelting.

Learn more about the work undertaken by each Partnership area as well as on cross-cutting themes by exploring their dedicated web pages as well as the Resources and Events pages of this site.
