The Partnership Area on Mercury Releases from Coal Combustion held its first face-to-face meeting in over three years on 13 July 2023, in conjunction with the MEC15 International Workshop entitled "Strategies for targeted emission reductions from the Indonesian coal fleet: capacity building to accelerate compliance" held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 11 and 12 July 2023.

Amongst others, the Partnership Area meeting featured:

  • an update on the Minamata Convention
  • an update on the project "Assessment of existing and future emissions reduction from the coal sector toward the implementation of the Minamata and Stockholm Conventions" funded by the GEF
  • an update on the project "Reducing Mercury Emissions from Coal Combustion in the Energy Sector" funded by the US Department of State in South East Asia
  • proposal for the next MEC event and Partnership Area events to be held in conjunction with the International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant in Cape Town, South Africa in July 2024
  • round table and updates from individual partners

MEC-15 : Strategies for targeted emission reductions from the Indonesian coal fleet: capacity building to accelerate compliance

The event was run by the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon (ICSC) on behalf of the US Department of State (USDOS), with the support of the Indonesian Ministry of the Environment and Forestry (MOEF) and the Ministry of Minerals and Energy Resources (MEMR) in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 11 and 12 July 2023.
