The governments of Peru and the United States partnered to host a South American Forum on National Action Plans to Reduce Mercury from ASGM. The workshop provided space for officials from Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador to share experiences and best practices, as each country seeks to develop national action plans to reduce mercury use in the small-scale mining sector.
The meeting was held in United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), back to back with the sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a legally binding instrument on mercury

The United Nations Environment Programme and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) organized the launch of the new work area of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership to address mercury releases from the cement industry. The launch event was held from 18-19 June 2013 in the International Environment House II, Geneva, Switzerland.
