Communication from TAUW bv

The not-for-profit Foundation of TAUW, who recently joined the Partnership, is currently calling for tenders with up to EUR 120,000 support available for individual projects that stimulate, accelerate, and (financially) support sustainable non-profit projects focused on initiatives that aim for a sustainable and valuable impact on the physical living environment, including reductions in mercury use, release, emission, and bioavailability.

Amongst others, in the past, the Foundation has supported projects for the investigation and small-scale clean-up of villages in Indonesia where artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) has led to contamination of the soil and groundwater. More information on the Foundation can be found at www.tauwfoundation.com.

The Foundation currently has a new call for Tenders where consortia can apply for projects. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 1April 2023. TAUW is actively looking for partners involved with the Minamata Convention to develop together a project towards global action on mercury and is currently exploring the option to set-up one of the following projects:

  • Local capacity building on site assessment and on-site containment activities for sites which are still polluted but where ASGM has stopped
  • Inventory of abandoned mercury cell Chlor-alkali sites and incentives to address these environmental legacy sites

If you like these ideas and want to become a project partner, or if you have another idea, reach out to guido.vandecoterlet@tauw.com to see what we can do together to help eliminate the impact of mercury on human health and the environment!
