Assessment of existing and future emissions reduction from the coal sector toward implementation of the Minamata and Stockholm Conventions

Assessment of existing and future emissions reduction from the coal sector toward implementation of the Minamata and Stockholm Conventions

This report evaluates current and future estimates from coal-fired utility and industry plants in specified emerging economies. Using coal characteristics and plant-specific data, projections have been created for emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), and mercury (Hg) under different future energy scenarios. The scenarios considered are business as usual, early retirement, and the installation of air pollution control devices, taking current and planned energy policies as well as potential future strategies into account. The report summarises a project of work to assess how emissions of concern could be affected by potential changes in regional and national energy strategies and related policies in emerging economies. More information.
