A two days Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop funded by World Dental Federation (FDI) was organized in collaboration with United Nations Environment program (UNEP), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Association of Dental Manufactures (IDM).

The report presents a demonstration of mercury air emission reduction at a coal-fired power plant in Russia. A wet particulate matter (PM) scrubber installed in Toliatti thermal plant has been modified to allow for addition of chemical reagents (oxidants) into the closed-loop liquid spray system.

In response to a recommendation of the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership Advisory Group in 2009, the partnership area has updated a 2004 database of global mercury cell chlorine capacity. According to data compiled, some 100 facilities in 44 nations today have some industrial mercury cell chlorine capacity.

This Partnership report explores the economics associated with converting from mercury cell chlor-alkali production to alternative technology. It should be noted that the estimates represent model calculations based on the best available information and knowledge.

Due to the adverse effects of mercury on human health and the environment, restrictive legislations and world-wide common efforts are now under way to reduce both the supply and demand of mercury. As a result, all excess Hg must be stored in safe conditions in secure places.

The report summarizes the limited data available on mercury emissions from India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
