Policy support

ComponentA

The policy support component addresses the specific needs of each participating country to create the enabling conditions for a green economy and sustainable consumption and production, building on and scaling up existing activities where possible. This component is implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme.

Under this component, technical support is provided to establish or strengthen enabling conditions such as policies, laws and regulations, standards, financing and access to technology and public procurement procedures for the selected priority sectors in each country at both the national and local levels.

The component also supports the collection, analysis and dissemination of data on the economic, social and environmental gains from the shift to sustainable consumption and production practices, to encourage engagement by ministries responsible for economic and development policies. The extent to which the public sector can support demand for more sustainable goods and services through procurement activities is also explored. The policy support component engages a variety of stakeholders, including the private sector, to identify effective, acceptable policies.
