Urban Food Systems

We work with governments and policy-makers in supporting cities to transition to sustainable food systems, including reducing food loss and waste and implementing Urban and Peri-Urban agriculture (UPA).

More than 70% of all food produced is consumed in cities, and much of it becomes waste.

Food consumption is one of the largest sources of urban material flows, carbon emissions, and environmental footprint. Sustainable producion, consumption and waste management play a vital role in building sustainable and resilient urban food systems. Cities offer the perfect environment for testing innovative solutions to reduce pressure from food systems on nature, and promote sustainable development.
