Strengthening institutional national capacities for the sound management of chemicals, especially the pesticides used in hygiene and public health

Project Summary

"The project will support the country in honoring its commitments to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions in particular as well as the achievement of SAICM objectives, with a focus on improving institutional capacities for the sound management of pesticides, including public health and hygiene pesticides (PHHPs).  The project adopts a cross-sectoral approach and inclusion of the private sector. The outputs of the project are:

  1. Institutional capacities in regulation of PHHPs are strengthened and comply with the obligations of the BRS conventions and the SAICM approach
  2. National chemicals control capacities are strengthened 
  3. The Ministry of Health capacities to sensitize the populations and the private sector for the safe use of chemicals are strengthened."

Project Objectives

"The project has two outcomes:

  • Improved compliance with the Country’s obligations towards the Chemicals and Waste related Conventions, in the context of the management of pesticides, including the PHHPs,
  • Improved quality of chemicals, including PHHPs, marketed on the national territory and reduced risks to health and the environment linked to their use"
