Working in partnership with organisations at many different levels is essential for the work of UN Environment. We know we cannot protect the environment alone so UN Environment’s mission is "to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations."
As such, UN Environment’s Disasters and Conflicts subprogramme has established partnerships with a wide range of international, national and local institutions. We work with colleagues from the UN system, from the UN Peacekeepers through to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, but we also work with civil society and local communities. We also know that engaging the private sector is vital to achieving our mission, as well as next generations through school and universities. By actively supporting partnerships and encouraging networks, UN Environment can better advocate for the protection of the environment in countries affected by disasters and conflicts.
UN Environment has been a key founder in a number of partnerships. One example is the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR). Through this network alone, UN Environment is helping to build a global community of decision makers, advocates and practitioners who integrate ecosystem management solutions in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and development strategies.
