IMEO Methane Science Studies

IMEO methane science studies help understand global methane emissions thanks to a series of peer-reviewed papers on emissions associated with human activities. IMEO’s science studies support and foster actions from governments, industry, and other stakeholders to reduce emissions of this harmful gas and curb global warming.

IMEO’s studies are led by academics and scientists. The current focus is on the oil, gas, and coal sectors. They build on prior work by UNEP in the framework of the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).

Here is a list of published and ongoing methane science studies.

Closing the knowledge gap

By conducting research on methane emissions from coal-seam gas production in Australia, from oil and gas offshore infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico, or by the oil and gas industry in the Arabian Peninsula, our scientific studies contribute to closing the knowledge gap on how important methane emissions are and where they are being emitted across the planet.

IMEO's studies make a difference in the field of research because they focus on regions and/or sources where there is limited or no publicly available data on emissions of this powerful greenhouse gas.

On this page, you will find the relevant methane science studies conducted by IMEO, information on how to benefit from our expertise, and how to apply for funding from IMEO.
