UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory offers training to build capacities in governments and national oil companies (NOC) and encourage them to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector.

Training is free. It is both virtual and in-person and geared toward decisionmakers in the oil and gas industry. It is organised in partnership with Carbon Limits and Environmental Defense Fund.

The greatest potential to achieve rapid methane emissions reductions is in the fossil fuel sector. Emissions from oil, gas, and coal operations are easier and less expensive to control.

This is the reason why this methane mitigation training will equip policymakers, regulators and NOC employees with the understanding needed to pursue strategic methane mitigation actions using a robust methodology to measure and report methane emissions.

We need a strong basis for action grounded on improved methane emissions data to close the emissions gap and reduce global warming in the short term.
