Report of the implementation of the UNEP/WHO/government of Kenya east africa dental amalgam phase- down project

The report characterizes the coal-fired power sector in India, and includes a description of coal consumption, coal quality, results from coal analysis, pollutants controls in the sector, and an inventory of mercury emissions from the sector.

As part of the Italian Polar Research Programme (PNRA) Italy performed (2012-2014) an intensive campaigns in Ny-Alesund on the Svalbard Islands at the Italian research site and at DOME-C in Antarctica (Italian-French bi-lateral program).

Country case study: East African Dental Amalgam phase down project (EADAP)-Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda -  Country report for project implementation activities in Uganda

The report presents results of a collaborative demonstration of mercury air emission reduction at the 8 MW pilot plant located at coal-fired Cherepetskaya Thermal Power Plant in Russia. The pilot plant was equipped with an activated carbon (AC) injection system and an electrostatic precipitator (ESP).

The report provides technical information on the concentration of mercury and associated constituents such as trace elements and halogens in feed coals used in South African utilities. In addition, it provides data to assess mercury removal by coal washing procedures used or being developed in South Africa. The results show how coal selection, coal washing and operational changes (e.g.

Managing the risk of forced labor in ASM is complex. Strategies to tackle it must address the double objective of eradicating forced labor and making sure that innocent people who rely on Artisanal and Small-scale Mining for their livelihoods are not excluded from mineral supply chains.

Health Care Without Harm developed a script for the video based on the UNDP GEF Global Health Care Waste Project “Guidance Document on the Cleanup, Temporary or Intermediate Storage, and Transport of Mercury Waste from Healthcare Facilities”.

Cosmetic skin lightening is practiced worldwide. Mercury is a well-documented melanotoxin added to some lightening products. However, mercury can cause many dermatologic, renal, and neurologic problems. The Food and Drug Administration limits the amount of mercury in cosmetic products to trace amounts, 1 ppm.

Somali women often use creams and soaps to lighten skin tone, fade freckles or get rid of age spots. Use of these products raises a health concern, as some have been found to contain mercury. This article describes an investigation that involved interviewing Somali women about skin-lightening practices and the products they use and then testing those products for mercury.

Mercury is a global threat to human and environmental health. This report, focusing on anthropogenic emissions of mercury and their transport and transformation in the environment, is a contribution to international efforts to reduce mercury pollution.

In 2009, the Governing Council requested UNEP to update the 2008 report (Decision 25/5). The Global Mercury Assessment 2013: Sources, Emissions, Releases and Environmental Transport and its accompanying and updated Technical Background Report were the response to that request.
