Ostrava Health and Environment Ministerial Conference Infographics

On 13–15 June 2017, the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health took place in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

There, countries agreed to develop portfolios of actions by the end of 2018 based on seven priorities: air quality; chemical safety; climate change; environmentally sustainable health systems; waste management; water, sanitation and hygiene; and cities. These actions will also contribute to the outcomes of the Environment Assembly.

Each year, at least 1.4 million Europeans die prematurely due to polluted environments; this corresponds to at least 15% of Europe’s total deaths. Around half of these deaths are due to outdoor and indoor air pollution.

The below infographics, prepared by UN Environment and partners, were on display at the ministerial and lay out the scientific basis for policy actions to address this challenge. Click on each infographic to enlarge.
