On 1 June 2022, against the backdrop of the Stockholm+ 50 celebrations, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) hosted the launch of “Keeping the World’s Environment under Review: An Intellectual History of the Global Environment Outlook” in an event organized by The Integrated Assessment Society (TIAS), PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Central European University (CEU).

The event began with opening remarks from Marie Jürisoo, the operations Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute followed by comments from the Guest of Honour, Edgar Gutierrez-Espeleta, former Minister of Environment of Costa Rica. Mr. Gutierrez-Espeleta recalled how ‘GEO became a collaborative and participatory process and how that has become the heart of the assessment’. As a serial contributor to GEO, Mr. Gutierrez- Espeleta mentioned how GEO is a continuous process that is responsive to rapid changes in science and policies and how it has reinvented itself with time.
