State of Finance for Nature

Authors: UNEP

The State of Finance for Nature (SFN) series tracks global trends in public and private investment in nature-based solutions, providing evidence and analysis to inform decision making and to identify opportunities for governments, businesses and financiers. SFN studies provide data and analysis on finance flows – both public and private – that have a direct negative impact on nature, and explore how to scale finance for nature and climate, providing high-level recommendations for key actors.

In addition to the SFN global reports produced every 1-2 years, SFN studies have been undertaken at the regional and national level, including The State of Finance for Nature in the G20 (2022) and From Grey to Green (2024). Other studies have taken a thematic focus, including Growing the Green (2024) and Unlock. Unleash. (2025).
