Toxicology in the classroom

29 March 2012
Toxicology-Colassroom

The CD-based teaching Tool Toxicology in the Classroom aims at raising awareness among young students about potential adverse effects of chemicals and help reduce careless use and handling of pesticides and other chemicals. The material is targeted to pupils at the end of primary school and/or the beginning of secondary or middle school.

Infants and children are particularly vulnerable to pesticides and other toxic chemicals because their bodies are smaller and still developing. Children also face greater exposure than adults due to their hand-to-mouth behaviors. Children living in farming areas or whose parents work in agriculture suffer greater pesticide exposure than other children.

This teaching tool will help teachers to provide students with basic understanding of toxicology and awareness of the need for protective and precautionary measures to avoid adverse effects on human beings and the environment.

The tool comes in several parts for different audience, either for the teachers or the students.
