The One Planet Network (OPN) is a global multi-stakeholder partnership advancing the shift to sustainable consumption and production (SCP) and circular economy approaches. With over 6,500 individual members and nearly 6,000 organisations worldwide, the OPN – through its programmes and initiatives - brings together governments, businesses, civil society, youth and experts to generate systemic change in high-impact sectors.
The Network implements the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP), adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2012 at the World Summit on Sustainable Development. The 10YFP provides the formal UN mandate for action on SCP, enshrined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through SDG 12 and Target 12.1.
Building on this mandate, the OPN supports the delivery of the Global Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production (2023–2030). The approved Results Framework for 2025–2026 guides its activities under the theme “Global solutions for sustainable, competitive, resilient and circular economies.” The OPN’s work is centred on four key solutions:
- Leveraging sustainable public procurement to drive demand for near-zero-emission and resilient buildings and sustainable food systems;
- Supporting businesses to embrace circularity and innovation, including through the development of a Global Circularity Protocol;
- Advancing youth employability and green entrepreneurship through partnerships on skills and jobs for the future;
- Supporting countries to integrate circular economy into national climate, biodiversity and pollution strategies.
The OPN also works through four areas of excellence – sustainable public procurement, consumer information, sustainable lifestyles and skills, and governance and mainstreaming – which anchor its flagship initiatives and core functions.
The network’s website has established a global knowledge platform as the go-to hub for SDG 12 policies, resources, collaboration and learning, alongside maintaining an extensive membership directory of individuals and organisations working on Sustainable Consumption and Production. The website also features regular updates with latest news, events, and opportunities.
The OPN is scaling up implementation to enable sustainable and circular economies worldwide, working with decision-makers, business leaders, youth and citizens to create the conditions for greater well-being, equity and sustainability while ensuring responsible resource use.
