To assist countries to review and update the National Implementation Plan (NIP) in order to comply with reporting obligations (Article 15) and updating of National Implementation Plans (Article 7) under the Stockholm Convention

To strengthen institutional capacity in the implementation of international conventions as a follow-up to the National Capacity Self Assessment (NCSA)

To support the development of national fuel economy policies in 20 countries, 6 countries through GEF-5 STAR Allocations and 14 without GEF funding, using existing tools developed with GEF-4 support (examples are the fuel economy baseline calculation methodology and online GFEI toolkit). In addition, to support coordination of the 20 country projects at the regional level to ensure that results are disseminated to other countries within the region. This will result in reduced vehicle fleet CO2 emissions in these 20 countries inline with the Global Fuel Economy Initiative's target of a 50% improvement of the overall global fleet fuel economy by 2050.

Improve the effectiveness of efforts to combat wildlife crime in South Africa’s Protected Area system, focused on rhinoceros through improved forensic technologies and capacity, strengthened data gathering, sharing and analysis systems at national level, and enhanced cooperation structures and mechanisms at international level to support law enforcement efforts along the whole trafficking chain

Project Objective: To assist Mozambique to strengthen the existing institutional and technical structures needed to meet the obligations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

To prepare and submit Côte d'Ivoire's first biennial update report (BUR) to UNFCCC and in doing so enhance Côte d'Ivoire's capacity to meet its reporting obligations under the UNFCCC on a continuous basis.

To support Zimbabwe in meeting its obligation to the UNCCD Convention through Alignment of NAP with the 10 – Year Strategy and reporting and review process for the UNCCD

The project will provide financial and technical support for the preparation of National Communications (NCs) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 12 non-Annex I Parties that have completed preparation of their current national communications. The proposed project will seek to strengthen the information base and institutional capacity of the national institutions involved in the development of national communications in order to integrate climate change priorities into development strategies and relevant sector programs. The project will ensure that countries not covered under the current National Communications umbrella project under GEF-4 , and which seek support from UNEP will have expedited access to financial resources for their National Communications. It will also ensure continuity in the strengthening of national capacities and institutional mechanisms for the preparation of National Communications by building on previous achievements and addressing gaps.

To support Uganda in meeting its obligation to the UNCCD Convention through Alignment of NAP with the 10 – Year Strategy and reporting and review process for the UNCCD

Project Objective: To build climate resilience in developing African and Asia-Pacific countries using Ecosystem Based approaches to Adaptation (EBA) through capacity building, knowledge support and concrete, on-the-ground interventions.

The project will provide financial and technical support for the preparation of National Communications (NCs) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 14 non-Annex I Parties that have completed preparation of their current national communications.

To enhance the implementation of Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety through strengthening and institutional capacity building on the National Biosafety Framework for Ethiopia

With the overarching goal of integrating CBD Obligations into National Planning Processes through Enabling Activities, the main objective of this project is to enable Kenya to revise its National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and to develop the Fifth National Report to the CBD

To assist Rwanda in implementing its National Biosafety Framework (NBF) and strengthen its institutions and human resource through capacity building in line with its obligations to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
